At Sunday’s “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” in Los Angeles, Miley Cyrus took the stage not just to give thanks to awe-inspiring individuals but to encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

Shortly before Robin Lim was named “Hero of the Year” for her work providing medical care to women in Indonesia, the pop star performed a stirring rendition of her hit “The Climb.”

The song’s empowering message made it a fitting choice for the sentimental evening.

Cyrus, who walked the red carpet with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, also presented a “Young Wonder” award, in memory of 9-year-old Rachel Beckwith, whose tragic death inspired thousands to donate to “charity:water” in her memory.
