Michelle Williams is transformed into Marilyn Monroe on the October cover of Vogue, in which she discusses her new movie, My Week with Marilyn.

Williams reveals she was incredibly daunted by playing such an iconic figure in the film, which centers around Monroe’s time shooting The Prince and the Showgirl, but says, “As soon as I finished the script, I knew that I wanted to do it.”

To prepare for the role, the  Williams spent six months immersing herself in all things Monroe.

“I’d go to bed every night with a stack of books next to me,” she says. “And I’d fall asleep to movies of her. It was like when you were a kid and you’d put a book under your pillow hoping you’d get it by osmosis.”

The private star also opens up about how she and her six-year-old daughter Matilda slowly overcame the grief of Heath Ledger‘s death, saying, “Three years ago, it felt like we didn’t have anything, and now my life — our life — has kind of repaired itself.”

But despite time’s healing, Ledger’s passing has fundamentally changed the way Williams looks at life.

“[His death] changed how I see the world and how I interact on a daily basis,” she explains. “It’s changed the parent I am… It’s changed the kind of work that I really want to do. It’s become the lens through which I see life — that it’s all impermanent.”

The magazine hits newsstands on September 20.

It’ll be interesting to see someone try to pull off Marilyn. She was definitely one of a kind… I like Michelle Williams, and the hair is pretty much the closest resemblance. BUT, we’ll see how good a job she does! ♥

I miss Heath, for her and her daughter…♥

She looks nothing like Marilyn. Nobody is like Marilyn and never will be no matter how hard they try! She was the Only ONE and nobody can ever compare to her!

Willimas doesn’t look even remotely like Monroe. Even the make up didn’t accomplish the right look. There are so many other actor who would have made a great likeness. Michelle is not the right one.

I love Marilyn Monroe and am so excited to see this movie but she (Michelle) doesn’t look or even resemble Marilyn even a little bit. I can think of many other actresses that would have been better suited.

I don’t think anyone, including Michelle Williams, could ever look exactly like Marilyn. She was one of a kind. However, I don’t think that’s the point. I think we are supposed to concentrate on the story in the movie, and not see it as lousy because Michelle does not exactly look the part. If I come out of the movie and Michelle has made me believe she is Marilyn, she will have her done her job. Remember when Philip Seymour Hoffmann played Truman Capote? I thought that was an unreal casting. But nobody could have played that role better than PSH. He was brilliant. Michelle Williams is a remarkable actress, so let’s just wait and see.

Michelle is amazing, her acting has always been above and beyond. Loved her Blue Valentine and can’t wait to see her as Marilyn I love them both. Michelle will knock it out the park. One of the best actresses out there now.

I’m a huge Marilyn Monroe fan and besides not being a fan of Michelle’s, she doesn’t look anything like her. At least when they made a movie about Bettie Page, Gretchen Mol resembled her.
