Michelle Collins Leaving “The View”
Michelle Collins is officially leaving “The View,” it was announced on Thursday.
As Gossip Cop reported, Collins was frequently a guest co-host on the ABC show last season, before being invited to join as a regular panelist. That gig officially kicked off last summer, just before season 19 began. But the comedienne has been missing from recent episodes, leading to speculation that she was on the chopping block.
Now, in an email to “The View” staff sent on Thursday night and obtained by Gossip Cop, executive producer Candi Carter confirmed she is indeed departing the talk show. “I have some bittersweet news to share — Michelle Collins is leaving the show,” the exec wrote, noting, “A gracious presence on stage and off, she asked smart questions, made us laugh and will always be part of ‘The View’ family.”
Carter’s note went on, “We wish her great success with some exciting new projects ahead. Please join me in thanking Michelle for her hard work, great humor and many contributions this season to ‘The View.’ She’ll be in the office next week to say good-bye to you personally.”
ABC will not be releasing a further comment, though Gossip Cop has learned the parting was “amicable.” And while Collins won’t appear on the program for a send-off, a show insider tells us, “We would have been happy to have her back, but understandably she wants to focus on other projects. We’d be happy to have her back on the show down the line to talk about them.”
Collins herself has yet to comment. The rest of “The View” cast for the upcoming 20th season is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, with more shake-ups possible. Gossip Cop will have updates. UPDATE: Collins posted the below statement on Instagram on Friday.
