Another couple was eliminated on Monday’s “Dancing With the Stars,” leaving the final six teams to compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy.

Pressure was on this week as the remaining contestants had to learn a total of four dances. For the first time in 19 seasons, the couple with the highest score after this week’s individual dances was granted immunity from elimination. The other pairs had to go head-to-head in a dance-off against each other, performing either the jive, the cha cha or the rumba. The winners of each dance-off were given an extra three points added to their total judges score for the night.

Earlier in the night, Janel Parrish and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy earned the automatic immunity after scoring a perfect 40 out of 40 for their romantic Romeo and Juliet-inspired contemporary routine. During the dance-off, Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson were victorious after outdoing Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev with their jive routine. Sadie Robertson and Mark Ballas danced the cha cha against Bethany Mota and Derek Hough, with the latter being narrowly beating their opponents. For the final dance-off of the night, Michael Waltrip and Emma Slater were paired against Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd, with the judges unanimously naming Chong and his dance partner the winner.

Waltrip and Slater and Chong and Murgatroyd were the two pairs in jeopardy. Ultimately, Waltrip was sent home based on the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes from last week. Waltrip said of his departure, “It was a chance to do something that was more emotional than physical, to get to experience the wonderful cast and the folks that we danced with.” He added, “I am a better person because of my tenure here.” And Slater noted that Waltrip made her a “better person.”

Waltrip now joins the other contestants who were sent home this season, including Antonio Sabato Jr., Jonathan Bennett, Betsey Johnson, Randy Couture, Tavis Smiley, and Lolo Jones. Do you think Waltrip should have been eliminated? Note: Video no longer available.
