Michael Strahan Didn’t Warn Kelly Ripa About Leaving ‘Live’
As Gossip Cop reported, ABC announced on Tuesday that the former NFL player would be exiting “Live with Kelly and Michael,” which he’s co-hosted for nearly four years, to become a full time anchor on “GMA,” on which he currently appears twice a week.
According to TMZ, shortly after Tuesday’s episode of “Live,” Strahan pulled aside Ripa and the talk show’s executive producer, Michael Gelman, to inform them of his planned departure. Sources further tell the site that both Ripa and Gelman were “stunned and upset” by Strahan’s revelation.
Strahan supposedly had been told by executives at Disney, which owns ABC, not to discuss the terms of his new deal with anyone before it was official, and that included the staff at “Live.” Disney is also reportedly in the process of looking for a replacement host to join Ripa going forward. Strahan will join “GMA” full time starting in September, while he’s expected to exit “Live” sometime this summer. Gossip Cop has reached out to reps for both Ripa and Strahan for more details, but we have yet to hear back.
