Michael Strahan Last Episode Video: Watch “Live” Co-Host’s Farewell Show Goodbye
Michael Strahan’s last episode of “Live with Kelly and Michael” aired on Friday. Watch below!
As Gossip Cop reported, it was only announced less than a month ago that Strahan would be leaving Kelly Ripa behind to join “Good Morning America.” While his departure was originally slated for late summer, it was moved up at Ripa’s behest. Now, after two weeks of awkward interactions, Strahan was treated to a goodbye show called “Michael’s Flashback Friday Farewell.”
It began with Ripa and Strahan walking out holding hands as always, but she opted to give him the spotlight and helped him into his chair just as he would normally do for her. After the audience’s cheers died down, Ripa quipped, “Don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s Friday the 13th.” Strahan went on to say he’s feeling “bittersweet.”
“I didn’t anticipate being here at this point. I’m not dying,” he noted. “I’m still family. I’m still here to come back to co-host if I get the call.” Strahan then said he didn’t want to be “formal” and fixating on his exit. “Let’s have fun and get on with the show.”
And with that, the two went on to do their typical chit-chat about what they did the night before. After, Ripa introduced the first “flashback” segment, showing “some of the most memorable host chat moments we have had together.” That included the time Strahan mistakenly declared a trivia participant a winner before she even answered.
Now for today’s game, Ripa cracked to the caller, “You never know, Michelle. Michael could screw this up and give you a free trip!” She went on to joke that she could be a travel companion because Strahan had offered to substitute co-host. Later, before Matt Bomer came out as the first guest, some clips showed highlights from the pair’s past interviews.
Bomer gave Strahan a big hug and props for helping Ripa host the show, and even told Ripa this is the “best” she’s ever looked. After another break, a clip reel showed moments the co-hosts danced on the show, prompting Ripa to quip, “Nothing makes us happier than watching flashbacks of ourselves.” Strahan added (perhaps unconvincingly), “It’s kinda fun.”
The second interview segment with Carmelo Anthony didn’t address Strahan’s imminent departure at all, but the last quarter of the show was devoted to the “Flashback Farewell.” Ripa introduced a “This Is Your Life” piece, which showcased dozens of clips, spotlighting Strahan’s laugh, his dress-up moments, and the various accents he’s failed to pull off.
It turned moving with a flashback to Strahan’s first day in 2012, with a message at the end reading, “Farewell. Good Luck. Keep smiling.” He said afterward, “A lot has happened,” and kissed Ripa’s hand. She then went in for hug, marking the most affection they’ve showed in weeks. Following the final break, Ripa revealed they had a “going-away gift” for him.
It was a pair of heels Strahan had worn on one of the famous Halloween episodes, now immortalized in bronze. “Nobody rocks a size-16 stiletto than you,” Ripa told him. She also presented him with a photo book, saying, “No matter where you go, you’re always here with us.”
Ripa then made a toast. “I just want to say, on behalf of myself and all of us, we couldn’t be prouder of you. You have given us so much joy in the mornings,” she said, adding, “We really are so so proud of you. We achieved so much together, and I look forward to watching you every morning and seeing what else you achieve on ‘Good Morning America.'”
Strahan closed out the show by saying, “I just want to say, it’s very bittersweet to me. I just want to say thank you everybody. It’s amazing to come here, and you guys have let me into your home for the last four years every day.” And after giving credit to the viewers and crew, he turned to Ripa and told her, “Kelly you are the best, I love you, babe.”
Then it was over. Two hours after the show ended, Strahan tweeted, “I am humbled by the support of all the great fans, friends, staff, producers & crew. Unbelievable 4 years. Unbelievable morning. Thank you.” On Monday, Ripa will be joined by Jimmy Kimmel as her first guest co-host. Check out the videos below!
