Michael Strahan Leaving “Live” Earlier Than Planned, Last Episode To Be In May
As Gossip Cop has reported, Ripa was blindsided last week with the announcement that Strahan is departing their talk show to join “Good Morning America.” He’s served as a part-time correspondent for the last two years, but his new gig will have him as one of the full-time anchors beginning in September. It was originally said that Strahan would stick with “Live” until sometime during the summer
But now he’ll be exiting the program a lot sooner… as in a few weeks from now. ABC says his final show will be May 13. The timing will allow Strahan to integrate into the “GMA” team over the summer, while allowing “Live” to kick off the search for his replacement well before the new season starts in the fall.
As Gossip Cop noted earlier, Ripa said in her speech on Tuesday’s broadcast that she’s been “assured that ‘Live’ is a priority.” For his part, Strahan told his co-host, “One thing I know about you: You love the show, you love the fans, you love the staff. I love you, and I’m so happy you’re here, because you brought me here.”
“This show has been transforming for me,” he went on, “and I know this show lives on ’cause you are the queen of morning television.” Strahan also discussed the situation at an event on Monday night, saying, “I don’t look at it as if I’m leaving one show in a lurch. I look at it as if, ‘You know what? I’m needed in this part of the family for now.’” Gossip Cop will continue to have updates.
