Michael Sam And Fiancé Vito Cammisano Split, End Engagement
Michael Sam and fiancé Vito Cammisano have reportedly split. The news comes nearly six months after they became engaged.
Speculation of a breakup first began earlier this month when Sam, the first openly-gay football player to be drafted by the NFL, abruptly left the Canadian Football League for personal reasons. No official explanation was given for his unexpected leave, which occurred during training with the Montreal Alouettes. Sam, however, returned to the team this past weekend, after missing the first game of the season.
In a meeting with reporters, Sam still didn’t specifically reveal what led to his temporary exit, but said, “I had to deal with personal matters when I was home. That’s all taken care of, so now I’m back.” Also during the brief conference, Sam was asked to address the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage. “I’m just happy that I can get married and it would be legal,” he said.
But in the hours since then, nearly all photos of Cammisano have been deleted from Sam’s social media pages. Both, however, have not commented on the reported breakup. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Sam proposed to Cammisano in early January while they vacationed in Vatican City. With one since-deleted engagement photo shared on Twitter, Sam had written, “@Vitcamm Thank you for saying yes.”
Cammisano supported Sam during his run on “Dancing with the Stars” earlier this year (see photo above). He was also memorably by Sam’s side when he got the call to join the St. Louis Rams last year. Gossip Cop will have updates.
