Michael Phelps Wins 20th GOLD Swimming Medal At Rio Olympics 2016 (VIDEO)
Michael Phelps won his 20th gold medal in swimming during the men’s 200-meter butterfly final at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Tuesday. The most decorated Olympian of all time now has a record 24 medals overall. Check out the full video below!
This marks Phelps’ third 200m butterfly gold medal, having previously won the event at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. The swimmer had to settle for a silver medal during the London games in 2012 after suffering a surprising defeat to South African rival Chad le Clos, who beat the U.S. Olympian by 0.05 seconds. Phelps, however, has now taken back the title.
Stunningly, le Clos didn’t even medal. Japan’s Masato Sakai placed second to win the silver medal. And Tamás Kenderesi of Hungary came in third to take the bronze. Le Clos had to settle for a disappointing fourth-place finish.
As Gossip Cop reported, Phelps won his 23rd Olympic swimming medal and 19th gold medal on Sunday during the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Rio is now expected to be the final Olympics for Phelps, but seeing as the swimmer came out of retirement two years after announcing he was quitting the sport in 2012, there’s always a chance he’ll have second thoughts.
Gossip Cop extends congratulations to Phelps on winning his historic 20th gold in swimming during the men’s 200m butterfly final at the 2016 Rio Olympics! Update: But that actually was not the end of Phelps’ winning ways on Tuesday. He also swam in the 4x200m freestyle relay and brought home his 21st gold medal and 25th overall Olympic medal.
