Michael Moore Slams American Sniper: Snipers Are “Cowards”
Michael Moore is under fire for calling snipers, like the real-life inspiration for box office hit American Sniper, cowards. The liberal filmmaker and activist made the provocative comments on Twitter, writing, “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes. And invaders r worse.”
He added, “But if you’re on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who’ve come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u are brave, u are a neighbor.” While Moore never directly references by name either American Sniper or its main character Chris Kyle, the late Navy SEAL played by Bradley Cooper, his intentions are clear.
Moore’s comments immediately inspired online backlash and debate. Thousands of Twitter users expressed disgust for Moore’s remarks, charging him with being anti-American and anti-military. Moore’s defenders pointed to a number of tweets in which certain moviegoers left American Sniper and tweeted racist or hateful comments about Muslims.
As Gossip Cop reported, American Sniper became a sensation over the long Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend, smashing January box office records in the days after it received multiple Oscar nominations. What do you think of Moore’s comments about snipers?
