Michael Douglas has far more than “3 months to live,” despite a poorly reported and tasteless story splashed on the cover of one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop happily can correct this vile report. We’re told the claim is not only misguided but also “pathetic.”

Under the headline of “The End!” the National Enquirer claims Douglas has had a “cancer relapse.” According to the tabloid, his doctors are “weighing whether emergency treatment can save his life.” The tabloid then quotes what it calls a “top informant,” who says in very fake-sounding language, “”His wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, is worried sick because this time around he may not survive.” “He could have just three months to live,” adds the ill-informed magazine source.

The rest of the article is filled with worst-case scenario quotes from doctors, who have never treated Douglas, as well as unsubstantiated claims about the Oscar-winner’s current health, and a recap of his past battle with throat cancer. What is glaringly missing, however, is the truth.

Douglas is not on the verge of death. This wholly fabricated story seems to have emanated from someone seeing him leave the famed cancer hospital Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.

A rep for Douglas exclusively tells Gossip Cop, “Michael just celebrated his 5th year clean, which in the world of head/neck [cancer] is considered to be the sign that the cancer will not return.” The actor’s spokesman further explains that Douglas was simply spotted coming out of his now “yearly checkup.” As for the tabloid’s report that the Hollywood star has but a few month to live, Douglas’ rep calls the claim “pathetic.”
