A Malaysia Airlines flight with nearly 300 people aboard crashed in Ukraine on Thursday.

U.S. sources and international officials say it was shot down with a missile.

MH17, a Boeing 777 jet, was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it lost contact with the ground.

Russian media and Ukrainian officials have confirmed the plane crashed near the conflicted Russia-Ukraine border, with numerous sources saying it had been shot down by a ground-to-air missile.

It is unknown where the missile was launched from, or who was responsible.

On Thursday night, the death toll was raised from 295 to 298, including 3 infants.

The horrific event comes just a few months after Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared in March, prompting a prolonged international search before it was said that the aircraft had crashed into the Indian Ocean.
