Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Get Perfect Scores, Bring Tears on First Part of Dancing with the Stars Finale (VIDEO)
After the couple’s intensely emotional freestyle, a crying Inaba declared, “First of all, I think you guys should get married.” She continued more seriously, “I love gimmicks and show-stopping things; it’s fun. But you just got real. This is what true dancing is about.” “What you did there was the most stunning example of divinity in motion,” she added.
Bruno Tonioli declared that the duo “keeps getting better.” “What you two have created is as close as it gets to a flawless work of art,” he told them.
And Len Goodman said, “There’s good, there’s great, and there’s Meryl.” Both Tonioli and Goodman tried to give 11s, which weren’t allowed, so Davis and Chmerkovskiy had to settle for a perfect triple-10. They also scored a 30 for achieving “perfection” with their amazing Argentine Tango earlier in the show, making them the only pair of the night to receive two perfect scores (for the second week in a row, to boot!)
Now they’ll compete against Amy Purdy & Derek Hough (59 points) and Candace Cameron Bure & Mark Ballas (51 points) in the second part of the finale on Tuesday.
