WATCH: Melissa McCarthy Mistakenly Sings About Hosting ‘SNL’ Five Times During Monologue (VIDEO)
Melissa McCarthy opened her “SNL” monologue by talking about how she’s hosted the show five times. She even broke into song about how she’s joined the five-timers club. But Kenan Thompson interrupted the song to say she’s only hosted four times. See the video below of McCarthy’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue.
McCarthy then noted how she was on the “SNL 40” primetime special, which Thompson said counts as only 1/16 of a hosting appearance. In fact, it is only the fourth time McCarthy has hosted “Saturday Night Live.” She made her “SNL” debut in 2011, with musical guest Lady Antebellum, and returned two years later to host, backed up by Phoenix. McCarthy’s third time as host of “Saturday NightLive” came in 2014, at which time Imagine Dragons was the musical guest. This time around, Kanye West, will provide the music.
McCarthy’s appearance on “SNL” comes in advance of the release of her new film The Boss, in which she not only stars, but also co-wrote the script with her husband Ben Falcone, who directed the movie. McCarthy stars as a bigshot businesswoman who’s sent to prison for insider trading, and tries to revamp her image as a kind and caring person after she’s released.
In the past for her monologues, McCarthy did a song-and-dance with Kristen Wiig. The next time she hosted, McCarthy was barely able to walk on stage, thanks to a pair of super-high, red “crazy shoes,” as she called them. And during her last “SNL” monologue, McCarthy wasn’t even on the stage, instead floating above it as she battled Bobby Moynihan in a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-style fight.
