Melissa McCarthy To Design Plus-Size Clothing Line

Melissa McCarthy plans to launch a retail plus-size fashion line.

The Emmy winner, whose leading role on “Mike & Molly” and scene-stealing turn in Bridesmaids have made her an unlikely star, has decided to use her newfound influence to help design clothes for women with a similar build.

“Trying to find stuff that’s still fashion-forward in my size is damn near impossible,” she tells THR. “It’s either for like a 98-year-old woman or a 14-year-old hooker, and there is nothing in the middle.”

McCarthy wound up co-designing her Emmys gown with Daniella Pearl after going through “9 million dresses with taffeta or shiny bows.”

While she wants to help women with realistic bodies find clothes that look good, being fashionable isn’t McCarthy’s top priority.

The actress and her husband, Ben Falcone, are parents to daughters Vivian, 4, and Georgette, 1.

“The stupid stuff like what I wear or how I look I can’t control, so I just try not to give too much energy to it,” she says. “At 20, I would have been like: ‘Don’t they like me? Was it my hair?’ At 41, I think the things that define me, I hope, are a lot more than those kinds of petty things.”

    I love Melissa McCarthy and am so happy that she won the lead Actess in a Comedy Emmy. She is an incredibly talent actress. She is also a beautiful woman. Unfortunatley, I did not like the dress she wore to the Emmy’s and when she said that she helped with the design I thought that it was obvious that it was not designed by someone who knew what she was doing. I hope that she finds a more competent designer to work with on her new line of clothing or I think it will be a failure and I would hate to see that happen to her because I think she has valid points about the quality of clothing for plus size women.
