Melissa Gilbert and Bruce Boxleitner have separated after 16 years of marriage.

“We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together,” said Gilbert in a statement. “On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time.”

Gilbert and Boxleitner wed in 1995 and have one son, Michael, together.

The “Little House on the Prairie” actress has an adult son from a previous marriage, while Tron actor Boxleitner has two adult sons from his first marriage.
