Megyn Kelly, Matt Lauer Feud Is Fake News
According to In Touch, there’s been a major battle going on behind-the-scenes at NBC since it was announced earlier this month that Kelly would be leaving Fox News to join the network. The newswoman will be hosting a daytime show as part of her deal with NBC, but the program’s time slot has yet to be decided. The tabloid, however, is falsely claiming that Kelly is trying to push Lauer out of his seat as lead anchor of “Today.”
A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “Megyn recognizes that Matt is the leader of the ‘Today’ show and wants to take him down. Matt knows there’s going to be nothing but drama with Megyn. She wants to destroy him and be the star of the show. This has turned into such a nasty battle already.”
The outlet’s dubious insider goes on to purport that Lauer complained to NBC executives about Kelly’s large salary and feels “stabbed in the back” by her hiring. “He’s told NBC bosses he won’t go on the air with her if she fills in for Savannah [Guthrie]. Even if it’s just for one day, Matt will refuse to do it.” And finally, the tabloid’s questionable source says Kelly “wants him to be cast aside,” adding, “It’s going to be a clash of the egos.”
Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a rep for Kelly, who exclusively assures us that all of the information in the publication’s story is “incorrect.” We’re told there’s no feud going on between Kelly and Lauer, and that her transition to NBC has been going smoothly. This is simply another fake news story designed to create nonexistent drama, and there’s no truth to it.
