MC Hammer Arrested, Blasts Cop For Alleged Racial Profiling

(GettyImages.com)

MC Hammer is blasting police for alleged racial profiling after being arrested on suspicion of obstruction and resisting an officer.

Late Thursday, the performer was arrested following an incident at a shopping center in Dublin, California.

He was booked at Santa Rita Jail and released.

On Saturday, Hammer gave his version of events on Twitter, claiming that it began when the officer — whom he refers to as a “chubby elvis looking dude” – tapped on his car window and asked, “Are you on parole or probation?”

“While I was handing him my ID he reached in my car and tried to pull me out the car but forgot he was on a steady donut diet,” tweeted Hammer, adding, “It was comical to me until he pulled out his guns, blew his whistle and yelled for help (MallCop)!!!”

He continued, “But make no mistake he’s dangerous. Only thing more dangerous than a scared man with a gun, is a scared man with an agenda, a gun and a badge. I was cited for obstruction smh.”

Hammer went on to write, “You have to know me to understand I was laughing when he was grunting and pulling on me… I had just left the weight room.”

“I will now answer his question, contrary to his personal beliefs, all people of color are not on parole or probation fat boy!!!” he declared.

Later, Hammer wrote, “Instead of being bitter, I’m taking the opportunity to make this a ‘teachable moment’ and ‘eye opener’ for my many friends & colleagues.”

I can understand what Hammer is saying. My sons get stopped all the time because they drive sports cars, so they are suppose to be drug dealers. Their friends who happen to be White, drive nice cars too and never get stopped.

My son got stopped and given a ticket for speeding, but the spot where he was stopped was not too far from his turn, so no way he could have accelerated that much to reach 75mph. He told the cop that he wasn’t speeding and explained to him why, but he gave the ticket to him anyway. So my son went to court and had a graphic to show what happened. The case was dropped, he didn’t have to pay the huge amount of money. Also, the cop didn’t show up. Cops like that should be fired.

umm America is racist, very much so. I am a minority that looks caucasian and i see it all the time because people dont think im a minority and it disgusts me.

  • Margaret Lea

Look how they treat him. The media is just plain awful with him. In congress nothing he does is right. I don’t even listen to the media any more when they talk about Obama.

  • Rose

I’ve been treated like @hit by cops as well. Sometimes it’s not what color you are, it’s a power trip. Not everything is about color.

  • http://twitter.com/KobesGameFace Kobe’s Game Face

It’s rather petty how you made an unrelated post about MC Hammer somehow about Barack Obama. And that’s why I will not be taking YOU seriously, ma’am.

  • D

I have always been an MC Hammer fan, but I don’t feel
his comments he made about the cop make him soundany better
than the comments the cop made.

  • MissZee

if this country was really racist, i doubt Obama would have won the first election. just sayin

  • Regina1180

Everybody claims mistreatment by the cops until they need one….

  • Guest

when do we need one? They pretty much are usless to protect you…..

  • Rose

I think her point is that it’s pretty hard to be labeled racist when you voted for a man, who happened to be black, for office. Yet still if you are white, you are a racist. No matter what the situation, even if you are sitting there, minding your own business, you are labeled a racist. No matter how much money you funnel into album sales, or buying products produced by other ethic groups, or wearing their styles or clapping your hands till your fingers are purple over people with color, you are a racist. Of course ONLY white people are racist! That’s all we ever hear. I liked hammer, but he was over the top. Some rich little white girl back talked a judge last week and got fined an additional ten thou. In some situations you keep your trap shut!

  • Judia

Evidently, you are not Black. You have to be Black to understand what we are talking about. This country doesn’t consist of just Whites. You have to campaign for the whole America. Plus, a lot of racist people became mingled in the Republican’s campaign. I can tell you a life story of racism I have been through, but the good thing is that I am a strong person.

  • Margaret Lea

You know something, Blacks go around with feelers that an ant has. We can spot racism right from the bat. If you are a good caring White, we can sense that. We had/have to live with a 6th sense because of slavery of not being beat with whips from our slaver owners or lynched, and so that our children would not be sold to some other beating slave owner. We had to rely on God for everything. Lord knows if we had gotten perverts as slave owners. We still carry this, it’s in our genes.

  • Jollie

You must be a child because this has nothing to do with sounding better. It has to do with treatment.

  • Margaret Lea

There are good and bad in everything in life. We are saying the law should get rid of the bad because every one problem of this kind affects society as you see here, then it becomes everybody’s problem.

  • Rose

I can understand that. It sucks big time. Sucked big time back then and sucks big time now. However also inherited is guilt. I never treat anybody mean and I mean nobody. Yet there is this ‘sucky guilt by association’ that sticks like dog crap, that it’s my fault, people long dead whom I’ve never met in my life, condemned me to be hated, because I am pale. Doesn’t matter that whites ‘fought’ to end slavery, or voted for Obama.

  • Rose

Those racist people are in the democratic party too. They just hide there, casting nets. To think either side cares about the middle class (which is being eliminated) is a joke. Both side are crooked. They use us and inundate us with bullshit so we are distracted, while they screw us all.

  • Alex

I couldn’t agree more. My son, who’s about 6’4″, 220 lbs and has many tattoos can’t drive to the grocery store without getting pulled over. Just last week, I had to meet him at the front of our neighborhood because the police pulled him over and had him handcuffed in the back of the police car because they said he “looked” like a fugitive they were searching for. They even tried to tell me they were taking him in and holding him for questioning because he “looked” stoned. It took me raising hell and calling my attorney in front of the cops for them to let him go. They still tried to have his car impounded because they wanted to search it-telling me I would have to pay over $100 later to have it returned. After a 2nd round of hell raising, I took my son and his car home. My son has a job, goes to college and is an all around great kid (I’m a little biased!) I have absolutely no faith in our law enforcement.

  • Alex

So true Rose. They seem to get off making you feel small, insignificant and most of all, powerless. The last time I checked, that kind of person was commonly known as a bully.

  • Alex

I worked for the police department for over 15 years and have seen some unbelievable things. I dated a guy who was dying to get in the department and asked for my help so when I asked him why he wanted to be a cop so bad, he blatantly said, “because I want to be able to beat up some n_____s legally”. Needless to say, our relationship nor his dream to be a racist cop lasted long – I made sure of both. This kind of behavior and attitude is more common than you know.

  • Margaret Lea

It becomes a color thing when they do too much to one color than other colors. Then we start thinking there must be a prejudice in the system. The system is made up of all kinds characteristics. Cops are too quick to think that they have a drug bust with Blacks because they want the commission. That’s prejudice thinking and racist right there.

  • Judia

The president has been preaching for the middle class, but he can’t do it all by himself. Congress needs to be bought in on the idea.

I agree, they want the rich to prevail in the USA. The middle class has it rough in the USA. We work for them + pay their bills.

The Republicans got screwed because they shouldn’t have let the racist people top the opinions in the campaign. Donald Trump, the Tea Party and Rush Limbaugh should have kept their big mouths shut, and others too.
Yea, I agree. there are Democrats in there with a lot of bull**** too.

  • Rose

    Power corrupts.

  • Rose

Preaching for the middlle class? Maybe to them while they still have some, but not for them. The middle class have been screwed by republicans and democrats.

  • Judia

I said congress which consists of both parties.

  • Margaret Lea

Why should you be guilty of something that you had/have no involvement. I am speaking of those people who of today that we can feel out because of our inherit ability of a certain 6th-sense, and believe me, there is plenty.I have experienced a lot of that. I just gave a history of where it came from. We have to face the truth because we don’t want this type of history to ever happen again. There is plenty of people who don’t understand that people are different no matter what color of skin, because that is the way God made us. If we were all the same, the world wouldn’t be as diverse and beautiful. They fail to see the beauty and they are just mean narrow-minded people. If you are not like those people, it would show.

I got pulled over a couple of years ago coming back from a snowboarding trip. Now at the time I was punk rock kid with electric red hair, and my friends in the car all had varying shades of crayola hair as well. There are 4 snowboards on the top of the car. I am still in full snowboard gear except for my boots. I’m driving in a bad neighborhood because I was dropping one of the guys off, and I get pulled over. First thing he does is ask my friends if they’re okay. Yes because I carjacked the 6’3″, pierced and tattooed guy sitting next to me. Apparently my car was used in a drive by a few hours ago. So I asked the cop “Did the car that was used in the drive by have snow on it? Did it have snowboard racks and boards?” This prompted him to pull me out of the car, throw me on the ground and put his foot in the back of my neck. He never asked me to get out, and I never resisted so this was a HUGE overreaction. He then started questioning my friends as to why they were with me in the neighborhood and were they there to buy drugs. My one friend, who was understandably freaked out, tried to calmly tell him I was just dropping him off at his house around the corner. At this point the cop start freaking out because he is now standing on my head for no reason. He finally asks me who’s car I’m driving (it was Audi so of course I stole it) and where I lived. Image his surprise when I told him that the car was mine, my caucasian friend was the one that lived in the ‘hood and I lived on the beach in Santa Monica. He got an even bigger surprise, when my pink haired pixie of a friend reached in to her purse and called her $5000 an hour attorney father and told him we needed help. I made the decision not to sue because I still have to live in LA and the cops here are vindictive at best, and I would live to avoid “accidentally” being shot by friendly fire.

  • Margaret Lea

A big bully indeed. That’s awful. I am not surprised that LA is that way though.

  • Margaret Lea

Good for you. We need more of your kind.

  • Jaded28

Not just LA. I have been pulled over for no reason other than DWB (driving while black) in Las Vegas, Philadelphia, San Diego, Chicago, three times in Arizona (big shock) it’s kind of an epidemic. I’m starting to think I should eschew the German cars and just get beater.

  • Jerseysmelltours

We all have to acknowledge that their are way too many LEO’s out there who took the job to be dicks like they were in high school…Don’t hurt themHammer…

  • Alex

It makes you paranoid to even leave your house, doesn’t it? It’s a damn shame. The days of thinking the cops were there to protect honest, lawful citizens is long, long over. You’re a bigger person than me – I’d have sued the shit out of those idiots and smiled the whole time. Though, I see your reluctance.

  • Jaded28

I have to disagree and I think the fact that you are using something that happened 200 years ago to propagate your racism against white people is just about the most ignorant thing ever.
People like you are the reason that racism continues. I have never in my life used the fact that my great great great grandparents were slaves as a reason to hate someone who not only had nothing to do with it, but is multi-generations away from it. I mean come on. You’re telling me that in 2013 you are still worried about a “white master” coming to… do what take your cell phone or lap top away?
Black people are just as, if not more racist than white people. Don’t even get me started on how much they hate each other just for being various shades of black. Or how about how many black people are against gay marriage. Which I’ll never understand. How does a minority actively work to thwart the happiness of another oppressed group? It’s the pinnacle of hubris and arrogance.
Hate and fear is not genetic. It’s learned. Unlearn it and you get to have a happy life. Hell, I don’t bother to hold on to ignorant things people have said or done to me last week. I’m certainly not holding on to something that never happened to me.
Of course I know your response already because I’ve heard it a million times, and I still don’t hate you for it. I pity you. You are going to say I’m a sell out, I don’t know how to act my color, and I have it easy being “light skinned”. I have it easy because rather than bitching about my color holding me back, I worked my ass off and became a success.

Hello Ms. Rose. No one black person speaks for all of us (despite how the media trots out the usual names whenever anything race related occurs). And even if one did, it most certainly would NOT be MC Hammer ;) He spoke about how HE feels about his run in, but that opinion does NOT suggest that ALL black people agree with him. And as for President Obama, having a minority as president is great progress for America, but it certainly does not mean that racism no longer exists. The fact that YOU are not a racist and would never behave that way, does not mean there are people who are, and who would (and do). If “all you ever hear” from black people is that white people are racist, may I politely suggest that you find some different black people to associate with. I think you will find that majority of us are civil, reasonable people of diverse backgrounds, experiences and thought. Just like you and anyone else. I hope your heart and mind will remain open to that reality.
