Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon appeared on Friday’s “Today” show to promote their new animated movie Sing. Watch the full interview below!

The musical cartoon, in which McConaughey plays a koala and Witherspoon a pig, features various animals competing in a singing competition. The actress said about her character, “She’s had 25 kids, so she had to put her dreams on hold and now the singing competition gets her out of the house and remembering that she had a life beyond having kids.” Witherspoon added, “I think it’s a really touching story. I think a lot of moms will relate to it and I think a lot of kids will appreciate their mom more after seeing it.”

As for McConaughey, the actor described his character as “optimistic, but not annoying,” and admitted he had no professional singing experience prior to making the film. “Today” anchor Matt Lauer then tried pressuring McConaughey into singing Carly Rae Jespen’s “Call Me Maybe,” which he belts out in the movie, but the actor was hesitant to perform it on the morning show.

Witherspoon went on to compare performing country music vs. pop songs, saying, “The country music was much easier for me. This was hard. Singing Taylor [Swift’s] song ‘Shake It Off’ is really hard. And I happened to have run into her while I was making the movie and I was like, ‘I have a new appreciation for how hard you work.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah! I work really hard.’” Also during the interview, McConaughey and Witherspoon revealed their kids’ reaction after seeing Sing and their families’ holiday plans. Watch the full video below!
