The actor spoke to the “GMA” hosts in a live segment on the morning show about his physical transformation for his new drama. When asked if it was more difficult to gain or lose weight for a role, McConaughey joked, “It’s more fun to gain it. [I ate] whatever and whenever, six months straight, eating anything I wanted to eat or drink, at any time of day.” He noted he indulged in mainly cheeseburgers and beer, and confessed how much he enjoyed binge-eating. “I never got tired of it. I thought I was gonna get lethargic, not sleep well and lose energy. And I learned another lesson on this thing, the only reason you get tired when you’re indulging like that is when you think of quitting,” he joked.
McConaughey also discussed how he interacted with a real tiger during Gold. He said, “They scheduled this scene where I touched this tiger for the last scene in the film. If you know anything about scheduling, that means if something goes down, you’ve got all of McConaughey’s stuff and all the footage.” He further noted how he wasn’t acting during the scene, and was genuinely frightened of the animal. “I’m not acting in this scene, I’m scared, I’m sweating.” Watch the full “GMA” interview below!
