Matt Lauer Getting Fired From “Today Show,” Claims Magazine

Matt Lauer is “getting the boot” from the “Today Show,” according to the National Enquirer.

The magazine insists the longtime host is set to be fired “after years of clashing with his co-anchors, and with the NBC morning show’s ratings tanking.”

“It’s just desserts. Matt is finally getting what he deserves!” declares a so-called “insider” for the Enquirer.

According to the tabloid’s source, “Everyone has turned against him, and Matt is going to be ousted because he’s being blamed for the show’s collapse.”

The Enquirer even alleges that Al Roker is “secretly plotting to push Lauer aside, and will lobby” the show’s incoming executive producer for help.

“Matt and Al used to be good buddies — until Al found out Matt had been instrumental in [Ann Curry]‘s ouster,” explains a source for the mag. “They come across as friends on the air, but that’s all an act.”

Uh-huh.

Was it an “act” when NBC signed a giant new contract with Lauer in April?

Lauer is NOT being canned, despite constant speculation in the Enquirer and similar outlets to the contrary.

Stories of staff mutiny and bad blood between Lauer and Roker may make for good tabloid fodder, but it’s based on nothing.

“There is absolutely no truth to it,” a rep for the show tells Gossip Cop of the Enquirer report.

    They may want to consider it. I know I, along with a lot of other people, stopped watching the Today Show over the whole Ann Curry debacle and I blame Matt.

    Fire this chauvinistic, uncharismatic douche. He’s incredibly un-telegenic so I always have to flip when he’s on. Also get rid of those two drunken people who have that chat show – so embarrassing that that’s on American TV. The only person who can pull off having people drink on air is Andy Cohen, and that’s because his show is at NIGHT.

    If only this were true. Matt is a pompous a$$, and I personally will never forgive him for pushing to oust Ann Curry. Then there’s his illegitimate child with Natalie Morales … really Natalie? You would think you had standards …

    Clearly there’s tension between Al and Matt. How could anyone ignore ““Which is different than our tradition… which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that’s another story.” It was even on this website too. It was completely classless how Ann was treated and that farewell episode was horribly constructed. Of course even if there was some talk of booting Matt, no one that’s associated would come out and honestly say it.

    I’m pretty sure that at Alexandra Wallace’s request, Comcast/NBC Universal’s lawyers and Matt’s lawyers are discussing a deal that would essentially pay Matt to leave, but they are keeping it under wraps for now. Mrs. Wallace is a really close friend of Ann Curry, and she will make sure that Matt gets what’s coming to him.
