Matt Lauer Fired From ‘Today’ Show Claim Is Late And Wrong
Matt Lauer is still NOT getting fired from the “Today” show, despite a late and wrong report that Gossip Cop already busted. We can once again correct this claim, which was published in one of this week’s tabloids. We’re told it’s “not true.”
According to Star, NBC executives weren’t happy with the news anchor’s moderation of last month’s presidential forum between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Many critics accused Lauer of being disorganized and mishandling the event, but the tabloid is now falsely claiming this backlash is putting his “Today” show job in jeopardy.
A so-called “source” tells the magazine, “To be so ill-prepared for a major news event is inexcusable, and his head could roll. Matt’s used to feeling bulletproof at NBC, but execs can’t believe how badly he fumbled this huge opportunity.” The publication further claims the network wasn’t happy either with Lauer’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics and is also frustrated by his supposed on-set feuds with his co-anchors. “He could be gone by the end of the year,” adds the outlet’s ill-informed “source.”
But none of this is true, as Gossip Cop reported more than two weeks ago when Star’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, printed this same bogus story. That tabloid similarly alleged falsely that Lauer was getting fired from “Today” over the Commander-In-Chief forum, but a spokesperson for the show exclusively assured us that producers are happy with the anchor of nearly 20 years and have no intention of getting rid of him. Nothing has changed in the time since. We’re once again told the magazine’s claim about Lauer getting fired is still simply “not true.”
