Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Matt Damon At Oscars – WATCH VIDEO
The host went after his longtime “nemesis” while opening the show, first joking, “I’ve known Matt so long, when I first met Matt, I was the fat one.” Kimmel continued, “He’s a selfish person, those of you who’ve worked with him know that.” But the Oscars emcee then noted that Damon, a producer of Manchester by the Sea, generously gave the lead role to Casey Affleck instead of playing it himself. Kimmel added, “He made a Chinese ponytail movie instead,” referring to The Great Wall, which the host said, “went on to lose $80 million.” He added, “Smooth move dumb ass.”
Later in the show, a segment aired featuring Kimmel sarcastically talking about his fake admiration for Damon’s movie We Bought A Zoo. Ben Affleck and Damon then came on stage to present the award for Best Original Screenplay, but music played over Damon every time he tried to speak. It was then revealed that Kimmel was conducting the orchestra.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Damon and Kimmel have (fake) feuded at an awards show. In September, Damon mocked Kimmel at the Emmys after the host’s own program,” Jimmy Kimmel Live,” lost in the Outstanding Variety Talk Show category to “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” “You must be really bummed out,” Damon said after walking onstage following Kimmel’s loss. “This is so humiliating,” said Damon, adding, “You lost, and now you gotta stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody… when you probably just wanna go home and curl up and cry.” Damon then asked the audience, “Can we cheer Jimmy up? He’s a big loser!”
While good friends in real life, the running joke on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has been that Damon is always slated to a guest on the show, but gets bumped every single night because the show’s run out of time. In 2015, the two even did a sketch on the program in which they met with a psychologist to work out their issues. During their joint therapy session, Damon discussed how he had been “promised over a decade that I was going to be a guest on the show,” but instead sits alone in a windowless room, waiting to go on. When the therapist confronted Kimmel about how it must feel to be Damon, the talk-show host jabbed that it must “suck to be him.”
Damon previously got revenge on Kimmel in 2013. The actor hijacked “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and bound and gagged the host while he himself interviewed a slew of stars. As Kimmel was tied up with duct tape, Damon sat behind his desk and chatted with Reese Witherspoon, Robin Williams and Nicole Kidman.
