Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen Selling $55,000 Backpacks Covered in Prescription Pills

Truth rating: 10

(GettyImages.com)

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have amazingly found a way to outdo their over-the-top $39,000 handbags for The Row.

In collaboration with artist Damien Hirst, the fashion designer duo are now releasing $55,000 backpacks under their label.

And get this: The bags are covered in prescription pill appliqués.

Yes, pills.

Only 12 of the $55,000 backpacks will be made, and some of the proceeds will go to UNICEF.

Check out the PHOTO of the bag below, and see more details on it here.

What do you think of the Olsens’ pill backpacks? Artistic? Ridiculous? Inappropriate?

  • Those aren’t even cute…. at all…

  • Curious

Ridiculous, inappropriate, and FUGLY but if they are donating proceeds to charity….then so be it.

  • GooglyMoogly

The outside of their purses might as well look like the inside of them.

  • PaulieA

    Ha, good one!

  • Sean_G

When I was a kid, and would leave candy laying around on the seats of my mother’s car (sorry Mom!), they would stick to her purse just like that.

Looking back on it I always thought I was just a sloppy child, but apparently, I was on the cutting edge of handbag fashion, and I just didn’t know it. Oh, the houndreds of thousands of dollars I potentially missed out on!

  • Rose

Absolutely in the poorest taste imaginable. When will be reject the immorality of the wealthy? People in this world are starving to deth and we are supposed to think it is ‘okay’ because they will toss some ‘offering’ to charity? And to top this, they make a mockery of the current addiction we face as a nation and through the bourgeois. They are probably laughing between themselves how the ‘fools will but anything.’.

  • dukem1

Gram Parsons did it first, a long, long time ago.
But, isn’t Hirst just so clever!

  • Noah W

Well worth it if they put it over their troll heads!

  • Joseph Newsome

I bet Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan will buy one especially Lindsay because she just borrowed 100K from Charlie Sheen!!! And They can both glue their pills to the bag and claim they didn’t do it!

  • rsal79

I’ll wait for the $100K bag with fake vomit on it!!!!

  • sweetheart81

    Not funny, ridiculous.

  • Really?

It breaks my heart that a crocodile had to die for this? I mean come on people really? If celebrities, millionaires and billionaries could give money to charity instead of spending it friviously on things like this (but then again who would ever want something so ugly?) think about how many people they could help…. The bag is ugly no doubt but my biggest problem is the price tag.

  • chigal

THis is just plain stupid, a desperate cry for publicity since their “careers” are on the downside. Ugly bag, ugly twins.

  • kaycray88

oooh, i spot a clindamycin 250mg, a viagra 100, and a diphenhydramine 25….(sorry, pre-pharm student here) but honestly, who da f*ck glues pills to a purse as a “fashion statement”. just plain ridiculous (and ugly as all f*ck) if you ask me! couldn’t you just make a nice, proper purse for proceeds??

  • Guest Account

Only an a$$hole would buy/sell a purse for $55,000. Idc how much money you have, that’s just ridiculous and disgusting

Wrong is wrong, even if its for “charity”. Can you imagine now easily the pills fall off? What if someone’s kid, my kid, happen to pick that up? And one of the Olsen’s were hanging with Heath Ledger around the time he OD’d. So inappropriate, if I were the charity, I’d say thanks, but no thanks.

  • teacherkid

This has to be a joke…

  • you have ot be kidding……

Ridiculous. I’m not sure who told these girls they were fashion designers and/or have any taste. They don’t. This is embarrassing.

  • animalpillz

its fashion-na-ble i love the design so simple yett so shiek…

  • Tony

You are too immersed in celebrity lives! You’re basically quoting everything in media.

  • XQ

Would look much better without the pills on it. Are the pills real? Either way I agree this is ridiculous and in poor taste.

  • fancyfeatherstx

This just sends a wrong message , and it is tacky, low class, and in bad taste.

  • Ethel

    lolz

  • http://twitter.com/ChromsomeXXUnCe ChromsomeXXUncensore

How is it even legal? Pretty sure the law is just letting it slide until one sells and they can get a bigger charge :P Distribution.

  • Aklar

I actually love the design. I suffer from depression, so it’s basically the story of my life. I would never buy a bag that cost over $100, but i wish that target would come out with a knock-off, because it resonates with me–pills everywhere, but life still sucks.

To Pay That Much, For That Bag, You Would Have To Be High On Those Pills!

  • Mr Sir

I wonder if they gave the prototype to Heath Ledger?

  • saucyjenny

will you run for president? I would vote for you!
