Mary J. Blige Baffled by Oscars Snub

Count Mary J. Blige among those baffled by the decision to select only two nominees in the Best Original Song category at this year’s Oscars.

After her tune “The Living Proof” (from The Help) – along with other worthy contenders – was left out of the nominations, Blige expressed her frustration on Twitter.

She wrote, “I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is….”

Blige then retweeted a number of supportive messages from fans who were similarly upset about “The Living Proof”’s absence.

The Academy nominated “Man or Muppet” (from The Muppets) and “Real in Rio” (from Rio) as the only two Best Original Song contenders, freezing out big names like Blige, Madonna and Elton John.

    The song is a better song than “man or muppet” which is cute but hardly best song material. There were better songs from the muppets that could have been nominated as well. But I’d like to correct the author’s statement that Madonna was frozen out. She’d have to be eligible to be frozen out and her song appeared to late in the movie to be eligible. Elton John’s song was eligible so that was a snub/freeze out.

    I think that this year Oscars is seriously disappointing, there were plenty of good flicks, songs & skills but were snubbed. It’s just ridiculous.

    has it ever occured to you that the academy might be fazing out that catagory as there were only two nominees this year and thir are usually five. at the end of the day awards don’t matter the work does
