Mary J. Blige NOT “Drunk” During New York Performance, Despite Report
Mary J. Blige was not “drunk” while recently performing, despite a made-up claim. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk the rumor that was started and spread by a site that has a spotty record when it comes to accuracy. We’re told by multiple sources, including a Blige confidante, that the allegation is completely untrue.
According to MediaTakeOut, “Mary J. Blige was drunk off her azz” while performing Thursday night. The webloid then notes that “Blige is a recovering alcoholic who is not supposed to be drinking… but she slipped up.”
What’s the site’s proof? MediaFakeOut has a short video clip to which it says, “Look at her drun(k) azz stumbling and bumbling all on stage,” before editorializing, “You better go to them AA meetings.”
Gossip Cop looked at the video (see below), and all it shows is Blige giving a lively performance and slipping a tiny bit as she turned around and pivoted on her four-inch heels. She is not drunk. Here’s what we also know that the webloid had no clue about. The performance was not on Thursday, it was on Wednesday at The Box in New York. And, oh yeah, a few pals of Gossip Cop were there and spoke to Blige afterwards, and say she was definitely NOT drunk.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time that the webloid has falsely accused Blige of having either a drug or alcohol problem. Gossip Cop busted the site for wrongly claiming she was “passed out” at a Nets basketball game a few years ago. It should be noted that no other outlet, entertainment or sport-wise, ever reported she was “passed out.” And just a few months ago, the webloid also accused Blige of being “back on that cocaine” because she was pumped up while dancing onstage.
Much like the previous reports, MediaFakeOut doesn’t have one single source to verify it latest accusation. It’s just making a wild allegation. Regardless, in addition to our sources who were on the scene, Gossip Cop checked in with a Blige confidante who confirms that these days “Mary doesn’t drink at all nor take drugs.” The only slip-up Blige had were in those heels. MediaTakeOut’s biggest slip-up, however, was publishing it’s completely wrong story.
