On Sunday’s “Mariah’s World,” Mariah Carey’s world tour began taking a toll on her relationship to finace James Packer because the two had very little time to spend together. Get the full episode recap below!
Early in the show, Carey sat down with her manager Stella and revealed that her relationship with Packer was becoming stressful because the two are often too busy to see each other. “I feel bad because I didn’t get to spend quality time with him,” the singer told her manager. “I don’t know how we’re gonna be able to put [the wedding] together because we keep pushing things.”
Stella asked Carey if her fiance was “upset” because he “left so soon,” to which she responded, “I don’t know because I asked him if everything was good. I think he had to get back to deal with his own business.” Stella shot back, “I don’t understand. He shows up for five minutes and then he goes?” Carey answered, “Everyone has their own thing. He’s very busy. I just wish I had more time to give him, like more quality time to be with him but I really don’t have that right now. This is a very demanding schedule.” She added in a confessional, “James has so many responsibilities, it’s not really easy for us to spend time together.”
Meanwhile, Carey’s backup dancer and friend Bryan Tanaka found out he had fractured his kneecap after getting an MRI for an injury sustained earlier on the tour. He decided it was best he leave the tour because he wouldn’t be able to perform on stage, but Carey wasn’t happy when she heard the news. “We need to do something about this,” the singer told her manager Stella. She added in a confessional, “Any professional entertainer, if you hurt yourself, even if it’s just for a day it’s not good. It can really hurt you. Hopefully it’s going to be OK.”
Carey came up with the idea to give Tanaka a special surprise, and the injured dancer was suddenly carried on stage by the other dancers in the middle of her performance. “I’m freaking out. What the heck is going on?!” he said in a confessional. “I feel pretty nervous, pretty shocked. I got a lot of energy going on, fluttering through my body.” The dancers sat Tanaka down in a chair and blindfolded him, and Carey then straddled his lap while singing her hit song, “Touch My Body.” After giving Tanaka a sexy lap dance, the singer told the crowd, “That was his moment. He wounded his leg during the tour!” She added in a confessional, “I loved the fact that they brought Tanaka up on stage, he’s a really really incredibly special person.” Tanaka added on-camera, “It was pretty amazing. That moment when I got to go up on stage. It was a special time for Mariah and myself.”
Later, Carey and some of the backup dancers decided to celebrate after her show by eating “space cake.” One of the dancers, Shaun, didn’t think the marijuana treat was working so he decided to “eat a whole cake.” Moments later, Shaun began tripping out as Carey and the other dancers looked on with delight. “Everybody can clearly see that you are f**ked up!” the singer told him as her manager Stella tried to console him.
Shaun later said in a confessional, “I was scared because I’ve never been high before and you don’t know when it’s going to stop.” The next morning, Carey and her backup dancer Mike decided to prank Shaun by being in his bed when he woke up. Shaun arose from his sleep confused as Carey said, “Good morning!” She added, “Mike, you were so loving and generous with your affections and emotions.” A confused Shaun asked, “Why am I shaking?” Carey told him, “It’s a beautiful thing that Mike was trying to give you as a friend.”
Mike then chimed in, “I was just trying to be here as a support system and I might have laid my head on your chest a time or three. Just to make sure that you were still breathing.” Carey then left the room and said, “You guys, I’m so happy for you!” Shaun exclaimed, “No, no, no. There’s no ‘you guys.’” A laughing Carey then broke character and assured Shaun that they were only kidding and he and Mike hadn’t actually slept together.
As the episode ended, Carey decided to surprise her twin kids, Monroe and Moroccan, by celebrating their fifth birthday on stage at her concert. The singer brought her children up on stage as members of her crew brought them dozens of pink and blue balloons. Finally, Carey sang “Always Be My Baby” to both her kids as the crowd cheered on.
