Mariah Carey And Oprah Will NOT Be On “Empire,” Says Creator
Since “Empire” broke out last year, a number of celebrities have appeared on the FOX series. Some, like Marisa Tomei, have been part of multi-episode storylines, while others, such as Ludacris, made one-off appearances. Carey and Oprah, however, have been floated around as possible guest stars for future episodes.
In fact, Lee Daniels previously said he spoke to both superstars about making appearances. But now fellow creator Danny Strong says it’s not going to come to fruition. “None of those people are going to actually be on the show, so I can’t control what names all of a sudden take off as being guest stars because they’re not,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
Strong also insisted the series, which is currently on a winter hiatus until late March, will be “way lighter on the celebrity guest stars” during the rest of season two. Strong made the comments at FOX’s Television Critics Association press tour party, not long after it was announced the show has already been renewed for a third season. Daniels, who has worked on movies with both Carey and Oprah, has not commented on his colleague’s remarks.
