Mariah Carey buying Marilyn Monroe items does not sell

Mariah Carey, who once paid $662,500 for a white baby grand piano that belonged to Marilyn Monroe, has now, according to Star magazine, ”instructed her business manager to bid as high as necessary to win every Marilyn item” at an upcoming auction.

Among the things Carey is looking to scoop up, says the Star, are a pair of Monroe serving trays.

The reason she wants the Monroe memorabilia, a “source” tells the tab, is that “Mariah feels Marilyn is a kindred spirit.”

Really?

Nope.

In fact, Carey’s rep tells Gossip Cop the notion that the singer’s people will “bid as high as necessary to every Marilyn item” is simply “not true.”

Like a candle in the wind, this rumor blows.
