Mariah Carey became Marie Antoinette for a new “Icons” spread featured in the Harper’s Bazaar September issue. Check out the picture Carey shared on social media at right and below!
The September installment is always the biggest of the year, and it’s a huge honor for celebrities who are asked to take part. This year, stylist Carine Roitfeld teamed up with photographer Jean-Paul Goude for what the magazine calls a “fall fashion fantasy,” where “today’s icons” become “history’s legends.” Other participants include Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Willow Smith.
There’s also Katy Perry as Elizabeth Taylor, Oprah as Glinda The Good Witch, Jessica Chastain as Joan of Arc, and Dakota Johnson as Aphrodite. Carey’s look was completed with the help of a Tom Ford corset, as well as an actual petticoat and stockings. She tells Harper’s Bazaar, “I’m pretty much the opposite of Marie Antoinette, but it’s always fun to put on a costume.”
Coincidentally, Carey showcased her turn as the one-time Queen of France just a few days after a short film was released featuring Kim Kardashian as the executed royal. As Gossip Cop reported, the clip for Hype Energy also had Kardashian portraying Audrey Hepburn.
