Mariah Carey May Cancel Brussels Birthday Concert Following Terrorist Attacks
Mariah Carey is scheduled to perform a concert at Brussels’ Forest National venue on her 46th birthday on Sunday, but in light of Tuesday’s terrorist attacks, the singer may cancel the planned gig.
As Gossip Cop reported earlier, ISIS has claimed responsibility for bombings at a Brussels airport and metro station that have left at least 30 people dead, and injured around 200 more. All flights and public transportation in the city have been shut down for the day.
Even if Carey decides not to call off Sunday’s concert herself, the singer may have no choice in the matter. Not only could the Belgian government pull the plug due to safety concerns, but the status of the airports are in limbo at this point, and Carey could come across issues flying into the city.
Carey is currently on the European leg of her Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour, which kicked off in Scotland on March 15, and will conclude in New Orleans on July 2. The shows mark the first time that the singer has toured Europe since 2003. Gossip Cop will have updates regarding the status of Carey’s scheduled Brussels concert, but as of now, her performance has yet to be canceled. The star herself has not publicly commented.
UPDATE: Carey tweeted on Tuesday night, “My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Belgium.” She did not mention the upcoming concert.
