It’s Official: Mariah Carey is New American Idol Judge

Mariah Carey has officially signed on as a new “American Idol” judge for next season.

FOX confirmed on Monday that Carey has joined the singing competition, filling one of the seats vacated by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

The “Fantasy” singer said in a statement, “As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with ‘American Idol.’”

“I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”

As Gossip Cop previously reported, Carey’s deal is said to be worth $17 million.

    Quiet Nick & let Mariah speak for herself. I think she will be a very ‘thoughtful’ and smart judge provided she doesn’t let her ego get in the way. Then, if Fox were really smart they would get David Foster on board…..will miss you JLO!!!

    some of you are nitwits at best Mariah has been in the business nearly a quarter of a century so she knows what she’s doing and Nick isn’t a sloutch himself so stop critizing him for what he said. why is him giving his wife credit for her talent looked down upon while when Paul Newman said simillar things about his wife Joanne Woodward as an actress nobody ever said boo about it

    Mariah Carey becoming a judge on American Idol will make me watch this show more than ever. I’ve watched it in the past but there are times I don’t pay as much attention as I plan too for season 12. AI’s a great show on during primetime which I record since I can’t always be home to watch. I’ve always hated having to deal with those annoying commercials until I upgraded to the Hopper recently. With the new Auto Hop feature, I can now choose to watch my commercials or get back to my show. My coworker from Dish showed me how with the click of a button, I could choose to watch commercials or skip them. The commercials are always there, the Auto Hop just fast forwards to the next scene without you have to do it manually. This will help me from having to change batteries in my remote as often.
