Maria Shriver Reportedly Hires Famed Divorce Lawyer

Maria Shriver has reportedly hired Laura Wasser, a prominent divorce lawyer, after she and husband Arnold Schwarzenegger separated and he admitted to fathering an illegitimate child.

The former First Lady of California has retained Wasser’s services but has not made a final decision about ending her marriage, according to multiple reports.

Wasser’s celebrity clients have included Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, Ryan Reynolds, Christina Aguilera and Stevie Wonder.

The mother of Schwarzenegger’s love child is believed to be Mildred Baena, a longtime housekeeper for the family.

    @Terry Beck – NOT cool. The woman he fathered the child with initially passed off her son as her husband’s. Was that alright? Maria was lied to and cheated on. I can’t blame her for at least seeking counsel on what her options are.

    If she is thinking of divorce then I can’t say that I’m surprised. It’s one thing – and bad enough – when a spouse cheats — man OR woman. But when another child is envolved it takes it to a whole other level. She’s catholic – she may decide not to divorce him but she should at least know what her rights are for her children.

    Hiring a lawyer in this situation is just common sense. After 25 yrs of marriage, 4 children & giving up her own career as a journalist when Schwartenegger became governor, she has grounds for a very generous financial settlement. I wish her well in the coming days & weeks, when this scandal will only get uglier for her & her children. Meanwhile, Arnold will just go on making more movies & more millions. Whoever said good guys finish last had it right in this case!

    I’m not saying that she deserves this, but IMO she should have gotten out of the marriage a long time ago. Many of her friends are coming out saying that she knew he’s been cheating for a while now. Why do women insist on staying with these men that do nothing but cheat? Do they really think they’re going to change them?

In most countries divorce requires the sanction of a court or other authority in a legal process. The legal process for divorce may also involve issues of spousal support, child custody, child support, distribution of property and division of debt.
