Manny Pacquiao’s Nike contract was terminated on Wednesday following the boxer’s recent anti-gay comments, which included him expressing his opinion that homosexuals are “worse than animals.”

As Gossip Cop reported, Pacquiao condemned gay marriage earlier this week during an interview on a local TV network in the Philippines. He said, “It’s just common sense. Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? The animals are better. They know how to distinguish male from female. If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals.”

After receiving a ton of backlash over his intolerant remarks, the Filipino boxing champion apologized on Tuesday with an Instagram video, in which he said, “I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals.” Pacquiao, however, added, “I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says.”

Despite Pacquiao’s attempt at an apology, Nike released a statement to Gossip Cop on Wednesday, saying that it would no longer be doing business with the boxer. A Nike spokesperson tells us, “We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.”
