Mama Scares Up Box Office Victory; Zero Dark Thirty #2, Silver Linings Playbook #3

Jessica Chastain is Queen of the Box Office.

The Oscar nominee’s new horror movie Mama opened at #1 with $28.1 million.

And Chastain’s manhunt thriller Zero Dark Thirty came in a close second place with $28 million.

Silver Linings Playbook, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, took third with $11.4 million.

Gangster Squad and Broken City secured fourth and fifth places with $9.1 million and $9 million, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 were A Haunted House ($8.3 million), Django Unchained ($8.2 million), Les Miserables ($7.8 million), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($6.4 million), and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback The Last Stand ($6.3 million).

    I’m sorry, but I find her extremely overrated as an actress. she’s not bad by any means but I don’t see anything Oscar worthy about her. any decent actress could have played the role she did in ZDT. Jennifer Lawrence deserves the Oscar way more. she had channel so many different emotions in SLP and she nailed it. again i don’t think Chastain is a bad actress but not as good as she’s made out to be.

    If you’re gonna see it, keep in mind that it sucks as a horror movie. But if you go in expecting a decent fantasy/thriller/drama you’ll like it more. But even then I didn’t care for it that much. I give it a 6/10.

    I agree….Jennifer Lawrence knocked it out of the park as Tiffany in SLP. Chastain is good, just not as good as Jennifer Lawrence, imho.

    Congrats on getting a job, been laid off for almost 3 years, kind of resigned myself to being retired early, since no one seems to be hiring. Glad you got a good job (or even if it is not so good it is better than nothing). All the best!

    I would like to see Silver Linings Playbook and also Lincoln. My sister gave me a gift card good for $25 at the AMC theater chain here in SoCal, so if I go on Senior Tuesdays and only buy a small popcorn (whatever happened to small popcorn, what they sell now as small is what I used to call Medium and at the best I can only eat 2/3s of it)? No Coke and I should be able to get into two shows in a couple of weeks.
