Malia Obama Wears Pro Era T-Shirt For Hip-Hop Group In Alleged New Photo
Malia Obama wears a shirt promoting hip-hop collective Pro Era in an alleged new picture making waves online. The image appears to have first surfaced on Sunday on Instagram, although it’s not clear when or where the photo was taken. Given Obama’s First Family status, the pic is getting a lot of reaction.
The 16-year-old’s apparent fashion statement was first highlighted by hip-hop outlet Masked Gorilla, which posted the picture to Instagram on Sunday, writing, “President Obama’s daughter, Malia Obama, in a Pro Era t-shirt.”
On Monday, Pro Era noticed, and took advantage of the chance for some high-level publicity. The group posted the shot and wrote, “Malia Obama rocking that classic Pro Era tee! Make sure you get your official Pro Era gear from theproera.com!” There’s no indication that Pro Era knew about Obama’s apparent endorsement before seeing the image.
Pro Era, also known as Progressive Era, is a Brooklyn-based collective featuring rapper Joey Bada$$ and scores of other contributors. The group has generated controversy in the past, with one of its logos showing the number “47” interlocked in a swastika-type symbol. Pro Era has also endured tragedy, when founding member Capital STEEZ committed suicide in 2012.
The shirt in the alleged Obama image is sold on Pro Era’s site. Obama is a hip-hop fan, attending Chance the Rapper’s set at Lollapalooza over the summer. There’s been no official comment yet on the apparent Malia Obama Pro Era picture. Gossip Cop reached out to the White House, and we’re told they’re looking into it.
