WATCH: Malaya Watson Brings Jennifer Lopez to Tears With Moving Idol Song
Malaya Watson made a big comeback on Wednesday’s “American Idol.”
After landing in the Bottom Three last week, the contestant stunned with a powerful and moving gospel song called “Take Me to the King.”
“Beautiful! Good lord,” exclaimed Keith Urban, who gave Watson a standing ovation.
The judge went on to praise the singer for starting at the piano and showing the “vulnerability” in her voice before building up to the “completely insane power and range that you have.”
Jennifer Lopez said she had “goosies from head to toe” and “had tears in my eyes because I’m so proud of you.”
And Harry Connick Jr. pointed out that Watson was “in danger in some previous performances in kind of running on track, [but] this felt very focused to me.”
He said going with a gospel track instead of a pop song took “a lot of guts,” but “the message was there.”
“I’m really proud of you. You didn’t go off the rails. You started from point A and saw it all the way through,” Connick told her.
