Malaya Watson’s “Amazing Voice” Leads to “Killer” Dreamgirls Performance on Idol
Malaya Watson once again stole the “American Idol” show on Wednesday, with a powerful closing performance of “I Am Changing” from Dreamgirls.
Shortly after Jennifer Lopez declared Jena Irene the “best” of the night, she and Keith Urban gave Watson a standing ovation and gushed about her “killer” vocal prowess.
“You have an amazing voice, oh my god,” exclaimed Lopez, telling Watson the track was “a perfect song for you, a perfect way to end the show.”
Harry Connick Jr. said the contestant proved to doubters that “Idol” does indeed have a powerhouse vocalist this season, and said the best is yet to come.
“Your voice is just going to get thicker and bigger and it’s going to be a pleasure to watch,” the newest judge told her.
And Urban agreed with both of them.
“Malaya, you got a really good understanding of the songs that play to your strengths,” he told Watson. “What you’ve got inside there, that’s just gonna blossom, is magnificent.”
