Maksim Chmerkovskiy Returning To “Dancing With The Stars” – Watch “GMA” Announcement Video
Maksim Chmerkovskiy is officially returning to “Dancing with the Stars” as a pro for season 23, it was announced on Thursday’s “GMA.” Watch below!
Chmerkovskiy’s return was first teased by his brother Val on “Good Morning America” earlier this week. As Gossip Cop reported, when revealing the pros for the new season of “DWTS,” Val said on Tuesday, “We have a lot of different pros coming back, some pros from back in the day, coming back, maybe. So I’m excited.”
Speculation only increased on Wednesday when a photo leaked of Chmerkovskiy and rumored contestant Amber Rose. In the snapshot, the two were posing for a selfie, but dressed in the traditionally flashy costumes typically seen in the “Dancing with the Stars” cast portraits. Then, after that pic made the rounds, “GMA” tweeted, “You will never guess who is back on @DancingABC! TOMORROW: Surprise #DWTS pro dancer reveal on @GMA! #DancingOnGMA.”
Sure enough, Chmerkovskiy’s participation was confirmed on the morning show with a live interview. The pro attributed his return, in part, to feeling healthy enough for the show’s rigorous schedule. Of his brother, Chmerkovskiy said, “He’s become the star of the show. That’s not going to change.” He also insisted, “I’m not running after multiple Mirror Balls. That’s not what my focus is at. I feel absolutely no pressure to win again. I do, however, know I’m a very competitive person.”
This will be Chmerkovskiy’s first time competing as a pro since he won the Mirror Ball in season 18, back in 2014, with partner Meryl Davis. On the seasons since, he had occasionally appeared as a guest judge, and, of course, rooted on Val and girlfriend Peta Murgratroyd. Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd are now engaged, and she’ll be sitting out this season as she is pregnant with their first child.
The full cast for the new season of “Dancing with the Stars” will be revealed next Tuesday, August 30, in advance of the September 12 season premiere. Check out the new “GMA” video below!
