Many fans are outraged that Madonna called a popular leafy green “gay.”

The iconic singer used the term to describe both the vegetable kale (and, interestingly, Russian President Vladimir Putin) while playing a word-association game for Buzzfeed.

Madge had to write down the first phrase that came to mind for 10 random things.

When she used “gay” for both kale and Putin, some observers were upset, believing that the star was using it as an insult.

“I am surprised she used the word ‘gay’ to mean ‘bad,’” wrote one Buzzfeed reader. “I thought she was more sensitive than that.”

Another commenter added, “Still using gay as an insult? you stay classy, Madonna.”

As Gossip Cop previously reported, Madonna sparked controversy and faced harsh criticism after using the N-word in an Instagram photo caption in January.

For what it’s worth, she also associated Hillary Clinton with “angry” and guacamole with “gross germs.”
