I don’t think that what draws fans to Madonna is that she flashes her book or grabs her crotch, it’s the mere fact that she has the balls to do something that others judge it as wrong. Madonna was performing to HER fans, at HER concert. Singing a song called HUMAN NATURE, which is about repression and how she does not agree with society’s pre-conceived notion of what is right or wrong. It is therefore highly appropriate for her to do this. It just shows up society’s hypocritical stance on all this.
In any case, her fans would most probably love her for this. Her detractors will always hate her anyway, even if she give millions of cash to charities (which she did).

Hi D. Martin. This is my point. You are not her fan. This performance is at Madonna’s concert. Where thousands of her fans came to see her perform. She was performing a song that deals with sexual repression, and the concepts of rights and wrong. This is her performance for her fans at her concert.
Madonna was not gyrating in her underwear for the sake of it, it is in context to that part of the show; this is the segment of the show where she sings songs about being punished for expressing herself etc.
This what her fans like about her. And admittedly those who are not her fans hate about her.
Which is fine. We have a choice . :-)
But I can never understand people who spend so much time talking about what they don’t like. I myself, prefer to spend my time talking or watching things or people that I like.
As for the Lady Gaga thing, it’s all tounge in cheek. I don’t know either of them, but my gut feeling is that they actually admire each other. After all, Madonna would have had to ask permission from the writer of Born This Way (ie Lady Gaga herself) to perform that song.
In any case, even if they hate each other, it really is up to them. I like both of them.

Hi – yes, I agree with you. In fact, the song she was performing was about that exactly; the concept of right and wrong – why are we not allowed to do certain things, and why we are judged for doing (or not doing) certain things. The performance was in context of the whole song.
Oh, and did you notice the hypocritical nature of many people (esp who hate her)… the hate what she does, but they watch and talk about it.
What they don’t do is to view is as a whole – ie think about the whole performance relating to that.

Some people here have said some pretty derogatory things and I don’t see you responding to them. I did not say – like some others here – that she did not have any talent. She does. She would not have lasted this long in the business if she didn’t. That said, I just don’t feel that, given her talent, it was necessary.

Madonna was actually never an “it” girl. All through her career and her life, she gets criticised for most every thing that she did, even when she wrote a series of children’s book and even giving lots of money to charity in Malawi. She has always been condemned.
However, her fans tend to view her performances in context of a show, whilst her detractors take one snippet of her performance and blow it out of context to suit their hatred and their prejudices.
