Madonna Rips Donald Trump At Raising Malawi Fundraiser (VIDEO)
Madonna held a concert and auction to raise money for her foundation, which aids the country where her son David was born. The event took place in Miami, and coincided with the 2016 Art Basel festival. Joined on stage at various points by Ariana Grande, Chris Rock, James Corden, David Blaine and Sean Penn, Madonna entertained famous guests like Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton, and Courtney Love.
And although it was intended to be a happy, festive party, Madonna also used the occasion to take repeated jabs at Trump. At one point, she recalled doing a photo shoot in what she claimed was the mogul’s bed. Criticizing his bedding, the singer sniped, “They won’t be Egyptian cotton because we all know how he feels about Muslims, don’t we?”
Madonna also performed a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” And when she sang, “Don’t you know that you’re toxic,” distorted images of the president-elect appeared on a screen behind her. There was also news footage showing the post-election protests against Trump.
The video also included images of gas masks, along with some of Trump’s controversial quotes. The performance ended with the image of a glass ceiling shattering, and the music icon asking if she “offended” anyone. In addition, Madonna also addressed the situation with Standing Rock and the Dakota Access Pipeline.
“It just really makes me feel ashamed, ashamed to be an American, ashamed to be a human being, really,” she told the star-studded crowd. The charity event, which was titled “An Evening of Art, Mischief and Music,” reportedly raised more than $7.5 million when all was said and done.
