The Material Girl is going to make a material difference in the lives of people living in the Malawian village of Mphandula. While in that town, Madonna promised the residents, who do not have any electricity, that she would change that. “I know you work in darkness. I will bring you electricity,” she assured the villagers.

Her Raising Malawi charity has already donated half a million dollars for a children’s center there, which feeds and educates 3,000 orphaned kids.

Earlier in the week Madonna broke ground on the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, which will take two years and $15 million to complete, and will educate 500 girls.

Earlier today Gossip Cop posted an item about Rachael Ray feeding people who have lost their jobs, and here was a story about Madonna lighting up the lives of others. Gossip Cop applauds celebrities – and everyone else – who help those less fortunate than themselves.
