Madonna Breaks Down, Dedicates “La Vie En Rose” To Estranged Son Rocco (VIDEO)
Madonna broke down during her concert in New Zealand on Saturday, as she dedicated “La Vie En Rose” to her estranged son Rocco. Watch below.
Madonna was on stage at the Vector Arena in Auckland when she was apparently overcome with emotion stemming from her custody battle with ex-husband Guy Ritchie. Sitting in front of the crowd in the center of a makeshift runway, the singer brought up Rocco for the second time, saying, “He’s actually 15, and it’s true — there’s no love stronger than a mother for her son. And if I talk about it too much, I might cry.”
At that point it became clear she was already choking back tears. Madonna went on, “But I would like to dedicate this song to him. It’s about a man, but I know he’ll be one one day. I hope he hears this somewhere, and knows how much I miss him.”
The emotional moment came just days after she and Ritchie were chastised by a New York judge for failing to come to an amicable custody agreement. As Gossip Cop reported, neither parent appeared in person, but were connected to the court hearing by phone, and were urged to resolve the dispute. Rocco will be remaining in London for now, with another hearing set for June.
The issue began last fall, when Rocco refused to return from the UK, choosing instead to change his primary residence to be with his father, over Madonna’s objections. Since then, the pop icon has repeatedly expressed her sadness over the situation on Instagram. This now marks the most she’s really discussed it in concert. Check out the video below.
