UPDATE: ‘The American’ Wins Labor Day Weekend Box Office

BOX OFFICE
George Clooney‘s low-key assassin thriller, The American, tops the box office this Labor Day Weekend with $16.1 million in ticket sales.
The exploitation-style, violence-soaked Machete has narrowly taken second place with $14.7 million in its debut.
Rounding out the top three is Takers, with $14.5 million.
Last week’s big winner, The Last Exorcism, came in fourth with $9.5 million, and newcomer Going The Distance, starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long, landed in fifth place with $8.5 million.
