Lucy Hale says it’s true that “Pretty Little Liars” is ending after season seven. Watch below.

As Gossip Cop has reported, the Freeform series is now in the second half of its sixth season, and has already been renewed for a seventh. There’s been much speculation that the show will end after that. And on Thursday’s “Late Late Show,” Hale gave what seemed like confirmation.

The actress was put on the spot by James Corden, who asked, “Is this true, that next season might be the last?” Hale hemmed and hawed, even wondering aloud, “How do I answer this?” The host, however, demanded a “true or false” response.

“It is ending,” Hale finally said, leading Corden to freak out and ask, “It’s really ending?!” Hale replied, “Well, we’ve been doing it for six years. I’ve literally spent my 20s on the show, and I think all good things much come to an end. Who knows what could happen?”

After Hale praised the show and her co-workers, a distraught Corden had just one more question: “How do you want it to end?” The star revealed, “I used to say I wanted the show to end walking away in the sunset, they’re all happy living an A-free life, no drama, right? But I don’t. I want it to end really tragically.”

Corden shot back, “Whichever way it ends is a tragedy, and you know that!” Fans are likely to agree. Last August, Hale caused a stir when she said in a magazine interview that she’d be “done” with the show “forever” in October 2016, leading outlets to wrongly presume she was quitting. The actress clarified on Twitter, “I am not leaving PLL!! All these rumors. I’m with the show until the 7th and last season.”

Then in December, creator I. Marlene King backtracked after saying in an interview that the “story” would end with season seven. “What I said was ‘This Uber A story that starts on January 12 will end when season 7 ends. I did not say ‘PLL’ will end. Just sayin 4 real,” she tweeted at the time.

Gossip Cop has reached out to Freeform for comment on Hale’s latest remarks and whether it is indeed official that season seven will be the final one. Check out the video below. UPDATE: A Freeform spokesperson tells Gossip Cop, “No official decision has been made yet beyond a season 7 of ‘PLL.'”
