YouTube Star Lovey James Gets Ticket To Hollywood On American Idol (VIDEO)
Lovey James got a ticket to Hollywood on part two of the “American Idol” season 14 premiere on Thursday, though her music may already be familiar to some people. Check out the videos below!
Only 16 years old, James has built up a small following on YouTube, posting original songs and produced music videos. Her experience clearly showed through when she auditioned with a cover of Ariana Grande’s “Break Free.” Judge Harry Connick Jr. noted that even though James sounded similar to current pop stars, she also managed to make herself distinct. “You add your own thing to it,” he told her.
James, who is also a competitive dancer, revealed her birth name is actually Kirsten, but she was advised to change it to avoid spelling and pronunciation issues. While someone else came up with the stage namey “Lovey,” Jennifer Lopez found it quite appropriate. “It somehow goes together. The sweetness, the quality, the tambour of your voice,” said the superstar.
Check out James’ audition and some of her YouTube videos below. What do you think? James, of course, is hardly the show’s first contestant with some professional work to her name. But will she survive past Hollywood Week?
