Louis Tomlinson ‘Just Hold On’ “The X Factor” Video: Watch Performance Tribute For Mom
Louis Tomlinson performed “Just Hold On,” his first solo single, on “The X Factor UK” Saturday, just days after his mother’s death. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop reported, Tomlinson’s mother, Johannah Deakin, died this past Wednesday after a battle with leukemia. A mother of seven, including her famous son, she was only 42 years old at the time of her passing. The tragic loss was announced on Friday.
At the time, it was revealed that Tomlinson had long ago been booked to perform on this weekend’s “X Factor” finale for his debut performance of “Just Hold On.” The One Direction member opted to fulfill the commitment as it was said to be one of his mom’s dying wishes. Saturday, hours before the live broadcast, he tweeted, “All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight.”
Tomlinson received condolences on Twitter from a number of fans and celebrities, including band mates Liam Payne and Niall Horan, as well as “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell. The music mogul put One Direction together via the music competition back in 2010. This now marked a homecoming of sorts for Tomlinson, albeit one that’s obviously bittersweet.
“Just Hold On,” a collaboration with deejay Steve Aoki, marks Tomlinson’s first official release as a solo artist. The poignant lyrics were seemingly inspired by the British star’s mom. He sings, “Oh until it’s all been said/It’s not over until your dying breath/So what do you want them to say when you’re gon/That you gave up or that you kept going on?”
And even before the “X Factor” broadcast began, fans made “#ProudOfLouis” the top trending topic on Twitter both worldwide and in the United States. Following Tomlinson’s performance, he appeared to become emotional as Cowell told him, “Your mom was so proud of you, Louis. She was so looking forward to tonight. She’s watching down on you now, and you’ve done her proud.” Check out the full video below.
