Time revealed today its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and among the celebrities who made the cut this year were Justin Bieber, Chris ColferColin Firth, Blake Lively, Bruno Mars, Amy Poehler, Mark Wahlberg, Sting, and Oprah Winfrey.

As is the case, usually the “Most Influential” people are written about by those in their field or who know them well.

“Glee” co-star Dianna Agron says in her piece about Chris Colfer that he “lives by extreme truth, speaking out against the epidemic of bullying that he, too, faced in high school. The honesty that he in fuses into his ‘Glee’ character, Kurt, leaves you reeling.”

Usher, writing about his protege Justin Bieber, notes, “From the minute I met Justin, I knew this kid possessed a certain confidence that only a star could have. He was born a star. He knew what he wanted to accomplish; all he had to do was get everyone else to believe it. Now, looking back at his incredible run, the reality of who he is and what he’s accomplished far exceeds anybody’s expectations of him.”

What do you think about this year’s choices for influential entertainers?

Also, check out videos of who Bieber himself thinks is the “Most Influential” person, and Colfer’s take on bullying and influence.

Half the people Time magazine gave as choices to vote on are celebrities who aren’t very influential at all in the larger picture. While we’re firing missiles at Libya is anyone going to consult Bruno Mars? How about asking Blake Lively(who?)how to bring our unemployment numbers down? Trouble brewing in the Middle East? Better ask Sting(eye roll of sarcasm there). A lot of the winners here are flashes in the pan who nobody will even remember
    next year.

Just Curious Irene, did u even look at the top 100 winners…there is only around 15 out of 100 that are Actors, Singers, Sporting Heroes, TV personalities etc. The rest are a mix of Preachers, Congressmen and women, Political Leaders, Activists, Freedom Fighters and many more. The title is not the top 100 people who will bring about world peace and end unemployment it is Influential people and the list has found those…you may not see Bruno Mars as influential but im sure there are many out there who have been influenced by his music in one way or another, You may not know who Blake Lively is but many others do and have been influenced. And to those who have been influenced by anyone on that list they will never be a flash in the pan and they will remember them for years to come.

Meaning of Influential ::: — adj
    having or exerting influence

I say Congrats to those that made the list i love seeing that no matter what walk of life someone is from or what beliefs they hold there is some sort of recognition from the masses :) use your power wisely people :D

This list has only shown those in the entertainment business and I totally agree with those who have been chosen. I think the point is that those mentioned are meant to show our young people what can be accomplished if you try, work hard, and if you want it enough to be unusually persistent. And of course, you have to have the talent to back it up. And, you have to be willing to speak out about your beliefs. Chris Colfer is my hero! He may just be the reason something is finally done about bullying, one of the biggest problems in the world (taking nothing away from the problems in Libya, etc.) But bullying is affecting our kids in a big way, and is completely cruel. No one should have to commit suicide to relieve the pain.
No one has worked harder than Justin Bieber to become “Justin Bieber” the artist and performer. No matter what you think of him personally, you can’t deny the effect he has had on the youth of the world. And he is a good role model whether some people like it or not (and no, I don’t just mean his hair!!). He is a good kid….so far no tabloid fodder, and he is proof that you can be a star without all the drinking and drugs. Bruno Mars is so talented and is also a good role model. These guys are young and are working as hard as any adult to be a good influence. Bravo to all of you!

What can I say. I’m sure Time magazine had good reasons to chose their 100 most influential people. I mean its only one hundred out of how many people. I’m certain they deserved it and warmest congrats. They are great in their own ways.
