Busting bad dish!

Who Should Play “Dragon Tattoo” Girl Lisbeth Salander?

POLL

(Knopf)

The list of actresses reportedly vying for the title role of hacker Lisbeth Salander in an American version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo looks like a Who’s Who of Young Hollywood.

The movie will be the first installment in a trilogy based on Stieg Larsson‘s bestselling “Millennium” series.

Among the supposed contenders are Oscar nominees (Carey Mulligan and Anne Hathaway), major film trilogy veterans (Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley), best buds from Juno (Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby), the star of 2010′s biggest film (Mia Wasikowska), the co-star of this weekend’s biggest film (Scarlett Johansson), and a girl with some book-to-film adaptation success (Kristen Stewart).

Not too shabby.

So the question is: Who do you think should get the role?

what’s with american filmakers and remakes? I mean, these movies are so new. Why do they want to film the same thing right away? there aren’t original ideas for movies anymore? please!

Fincher/Zailian/Rudin would be really lucky to snag Ms. Stewart for Lisbeth Salander. I’d pay to see it – like thrice, and the rumors that she was up for the role inspired me to buy the book. Kristen is where authentic gritty sensitive poignancy meet cha-ching. Who else can pull that off on the list? Seriously.

    Obstacles in the way are:
1.) Ms. Stewart is already filming BDawn in Fall right after Coppola’s On the Road and rumors are that Rudin is scouting locations in Sweden and shooting may begin in October?
2.) Fincher may want an unknown, and he’s a genius.
3.) Ms. Stewart has expressed a reluctance to lean into another large lead role – she’s a gal who likes to earn her chops. Ya know, the integrity thing. However, this one has the elements of complexity and character that may appeal to her.
4.) Politics – who knows what these awesome men must endure there. Be it dimples, comedic crossovers, obscure hungry wannabes, too played, too old for Lisbeth, too prissy for words, too irrelevant or uninteresting and Ms. trying be so sexy so that it’s not sexy and more like dry aged lamb gone sour.
5.) Sequels – I don’t know if she’s down for lead role sequels either. There are three books in the series.

Fincher and Rudin will nail it anyway – they always do. They don’t need me. Where’s my popcorn? The casting pre-show is just as much fun right now. It’s like Bush v Gore 2000; except, humankind and the whole of the Earth and democracy isn’t hanging in the balance. Well, almost. I’ll watch this as long as they consider Stewart, then I’ll just phase back to the book and the Rapace to get my Girl Dragon fix. That’s just my personal 411. It doesn’t matter I’m sure.

In the meantime, I wish the newsies and quasi-starlets would leave Mr. Fincher alone – he’s a quasar of film direction in the Rudin universe with the Starship Zaillian and we should let him do his thing. Trust me, you’ll be happier not looking directly into the sun at dawn.

Kristen Stewart or Ellen Page. Kristen would be great because she can do dark and fits the Lisbeth description from the book. She blends in like a 14 year old boy all the time. (no offense). Honestly Keira and Natalie are too pretty for this. I cant picture Carey or the rest. IDK. Also Lisbeth is hinted at having aspergers and I can easily picture Stewart like that..again no offense. lol this whole post sounds like a backhanded compliment.

I think Fincher should get an unknown if he cant get Kristen or Ellen.

Because the Swedish original was so good, Lisbeth Salander are huge shoes to fill. For me there is only one actress who can take that role and own it as her own and that is Kristen Stewart. She managed to become Joan Jett with gusto and as Lisbeth Kristen could do the same. I just can’t see any other actress in this role other than the original or Kristen Stewart. If they can film round her Twilight obligations the Hollywood re-make will be the best. I have seen the Swedish version and will positively watch this if Kristen IS Lisbeth Salander. To carry all them tones the character has I know 100% she could pull this off.

I love reading a captivating series of books and understand wanting to see them translated onto the screen. What drives me nuts is putting well known actors into these roles and then trying to suspend my disbelief that over exposed actors are now these characters. I would much rather see new great talent in these roles. I do understand that there are a lot of fans of current hot actors but I think they need to find someone more fresh. I read lots of support of K. Stewart, but please give me a break. She is not gods gift to acting and has unfortunately become very over exposed. Let her move on to some supporting characters and build her reputation beyond that awful Bella character. If they were to cast her I would not want to see this movie and would stick to that great Swedish movie version.

I just finished reading the first two books and I am planning to see the movie next week… either Stewart who has the toughness but not the range or Mulligan because she really can act and she is physically the closest to Lisbeth if she darkens her hair although she may be too soft most of the other actresses on the list are too old because the character is supposed to look 15/16

Lisbeth Salander’s character is 24, but being less endowed can look as young as 14. Think: shades of Mathilde in The Professional with the skills of Trinity in The Matrix, a relationship dynamic as in La Femme Nikita and a goth fashion sense like a paired down Siouxsie Sioux with the independent personality of Pippi Longstocking. She’s fierce with a dark past and described as an alluring autistic genius. She’s odd, brilliant, quiet and mysterious but has low self esteem and believes she has nothing to offer. Men think she’s sexy.

Judging from some disturbing scenes in the book not many on the list could pull this off. Most definitely not Carey or Ellen – weird, a really dicey stretch and awkward.

Kristen definitely. She’s fresh and versatile. Salander is shades of Kristen Stewart superficially and as acting emotionally in Meet the Rileys, The Runaways and Speak that are striking, so I wish she were available – especially having worked with Fincher and Zaillian projects before. Natalie Portman ala Closer and The Professional would be great if she were younger and colder – more fierce less whiny and sympathetic. Ultimately Angelina Jolie circa her Hackers era fits very well with a younger Harrison Ford as Mikael Blomkvist… Oh well, we all grow up eventually…

I really think it’s THE role for Kristen Stewart!
    Because…
1)the character is an androginous bisexual ^^
2)and is supposed to have an expressionless face(and we know KStew do it very well sometimes…-no offence guys)
    3) KS has approximatly the same age and physical description from the book-supposed to look like a teenage boy
4)the character is a young female victim with a very difficult past who takes control and gets hard revenge from abusive and old dirty/crazy men-very physically sometimes and we know KStew will love it!!
5)it’s a very strong and independant female role-model-and->same as 4)

So, KStew, I know it’s another Hollywood trilogy and all, but…. think about it please… ;)

Ellen Page would be great for the role. She can act and has the look for the part. She was actually my pick to play Bella in the Twilight series. Oh well….

  • icedragon

Evangeline Lily would be the BEST choice by far……

  • daba68

Emily Browning with short punky hair would be the perfect choice. She has high cheekbones and large lips and a Eurasian look. She also looks like she’s fourteen years old. Emily Browning fits the books description of Lisbeth.

Ellen Page please. Salander is TINY. Under five feet and about 90 pounds. This is important. No matter how goth-dangerous she dresses, she looks like a doll-child. People underestimate her all the time based on that appearance. Page is the only one on the list under 5′ 2″. She’s also not as old as some of the others. But of course the question is, do we need a “remake”? And where will it take place? Will this be American actors speaking English and pretending to be Swedish or simply re-written for America?

I think they should leave this film alone. Why does Hollywood have to sensationalize EVERYTHING?! What happened to respecting the art? Is it seriously all about what “piece of the monetary pie” they can get? How very sad. I know there are some people who say that they’re making this version so that EVERYONE can enjoy the film as not everyone likes to read the subtitles. That’s ridiculous! I’ve seen many films that have been dubbed over in English or whatever language is your preference. Personally, I think the subtitles make you pay attention to the smallest details of the movie; it challenges the mind. It’s sad that we’ve become that lazy.

As far as who should play Lisbeth Salander? There is no better person to have played Lisbeth than Roomi Rapace. Roomi captured Lisbeth’s essence as though she were Lisbeth herself. I am sure anyone who has read the books would agree she was the best choice. In my eyes, there is no other actress out there who could even come close to her performance. This was an emotionally difficult role for Roomi to play and to just cast it off in an American version in my opinion would just lessen the intensity this role requires. Bravo Roomi and thank you for giving and sacrificing so much of yourself in order to perfect your portrayal of Lisbeth. Your fans love you and we’re all certain Mr. Larrson would most definately be proud.

I apologize, please forgive my spelling error, it’s NOOMI not ROOMI !!!!

Personally I think all those actresses are fine but only one actress with the acting chops can pull off the part and that’s Tammy Blanchard.
I have seen her in many things and this young actress can act.
In 2001 she won an Emmy as a young Judy Garland, then she played Sybil on a CBS remake- unbelievable, she is fantastic.
Hollywood has to start thinking out of the box and go with the talent and not just the name.
Tammy was just in Amish Grace on Lifetime and rocked that roll
Yeah, Tammy Blanchard is my choice.
